About
Quwa Smart
Services.

Quwa Smart Services is a specialized, client-focused engineering firm working on energy management, building optimization and decarbonization. We do audits, design, recommissioning and verification, and we publish the uncertainty next to every number we produce.

30+ years
Of combined experience in energy systems, renewables and decarbonization
10M+ sq ft
Assessed under energy, carbon and performance studies
$15M
In grants and incentives secured
16+ MW
Of renewable energy supported, including solar PV design and grid integration

A substantial share of the buildings we assess go on to secure retrofit funding, the step that turns a study into a project.

How we work

Four commitments.

These determine how the work is scoped and how the reports are written.

Controls before capital

Why we look at
controls before
equipment.

Capital projects have vendors, and vendors have marketing budgets; recommissioning has neither. The result is a structural bias in this industry toward replacing equipment.

But in building after building, the largest single available saving is not a new machine. It is a sequence of operations that stopped matching reality some years ago: a sensor reading a fixed value, a seasonal changeover that never fires, an air handler overcooling air that something downstream then reheats.

We look for that first, because a capital project scoped inside a building whose controls are misreporting gets sized against a load profile that is itself an artefact of the fault.

Standards

Frameworks
we work to.

Working to a published standard means the arithmetic can be checked independently.

ASHRAE Level I–III

Energy audit scope, from walk-through survey to investment-grade analysis, with the depth of measurement matched to the size of the decision.

IPMVP

Options A through D for savings verification. We state which option we are using, why, and what its uncertainty is.

ASHRAE Guideline 14

Statistical requirements for baseline models: R², CV(RMSE) and NMBE limits that a fitted model has to clear before we will build a savings claim on it.

BOMA BEST & Enspire

Phase I and II building performance assessment, and Retrofit Ready funding streams under NRCan's Deep Retrofit Accelerator Initiative.

IESO Save on Energy

Peak Performance Program aggregation, delivered through our Q-Peak platform.

Professional credentials

Work is led by licensed professional engineers holding P.Eng., PhD, PMP and Certified Energy Manager designations, with advanced building commissioning (EBCx) accreditation in house.

Where we work

Fourteen cities,
and heading south.

From Vancouver to Montréal, across British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario and Quebec. Office towers, retail plazas, housing co-operatives, manufacturing plants and data centres. The map below is our Canadian footprint; we are extending the same work into the United States, and are taking enquiries there now.

Next step

Thirty minutes, with the engineer who would run the work.

No cost and no obligation. Bring twelve months of utility bills if you have them — that alone is usually enough to say whether a building has a capital problem or a controls problem.
